GreenHouse Energy and Gordon Biersch Brewery came to an agreement today to convert 2,000 tons of spent yeast, a bi product of beer production, into pure ethanol to fuel cars and generators throughout the state of California.

GreenHouse Energy is the exclusive distributor of the MicroFueler, the first viable ethanol micro-refinery system. This revolutionary technology gives individuals and businesses the ability to be energy independent by producing ethanol from waste, comprised of water, sugar and unused beer or other spirits, on premise.

The San Diego based brewer has been a long time advocate of alternative fuels and environmentally conscious manufacturing. “We want to brew high grade fuel”, says Dan Gordon, co-founder and master brewer “and then we’ll use the water distilled from the MicroFueler to irrigate the brewery landscaping!” As part of the agreement Gordon Biersch will donate the spent yeast leftover from production, about 40 tons per week, which will then be processed into feedstock and delivered to MicroFueler customers all over the state.

“We at GreenHouse are very excited to be working with Gordon Biersch to literally power California”, said Vice President of Feedstock Acquisition Robert Cortes. “This is just one step in the process of moving California, and later the country, closer to independence from foreign oil.”
