California Pilot Program

Governer Schwarzenegger and the Department of General Services have agreed to run a pilot program with GreenHouse. The program will provide MicroFuelers to the State of California for the purpose of fueling the current fleet of flex fuel vehicles. A successful pilot will establish the model for distributing feedstock and producing ethanol throughout the state and move California closer to its mandated AB236 and AB32 goals.

What are AB236 and AB32

California is a leader in establishing forward thinking environmental policy. On September 27th, 2006 the state adopted AB32 and set the bar for carbon emission reduction for the rest of the country. The new law mandates that California roll back its carbon emission to 1990 levels by 2020, roughly a 25% reduction. Given that pure ethanol burns cleaner than gasoline and reduces harmful emissions by as much as 50%, the MicroFueler will quickly move California toward compliance.

On October 15, 2007 Governor Schwarzenegger signed AB 236 into law. This requires the Department of General Services to only purchase alternative fuel vehicles starting in 2008 and to fuel those vehicles exclusively with alternative fuels by July of 2009.
